Ms. Materre’s professional background spans more than 25 years experience in the independent film and television industry as producer, writer, arts administrator, distribution/marketing specialist and college professor. This is her eleventh year as curator of Creatively Speaking™, a curated film series focusing on new and innovative work by artists of color, which has become an important forum recognized for its ability to engage and educate audiences about the filmmaking process and the empowering impact of story telling through film and video. Ms. Materre was a founding partner and Vice President of Creative Affairs of KJM3 Entertainment Group, Inc., a film distribution and marketing company that specialized in multicultural feature and short film projects. The company was responsible for marketing the successful theatrical release of Daughters of the Dust, the highly acclaimed film by Julie Dash. Ms. Materre is currently an independent media consultant, advising filmmakers and organizations on fundraising, distribution, marketing, outreach, programming and production issues. Ms. Materre is an Assistant Professor of Media Studies at The New School in New York City and was formerly on the Board of Directors of New York Women in Film and Television.
